Upcoming training in leadership topics:
Agile Leadership — Advanced Training, one Year
(Six modules of two days each, plus consolidation)
Course contents
A new kind of leadership
Self-management needs appropriate leadership. In these times of rapidly changing markets and a workforce demanding jobs with motivation and meaning, completely different methods and mindset are expected of leaders compared to ten years ago. This represents a paradigm shift in leadership, and it demands both a high degree of self-examination and a willingness to adopt new tools and techniques.
Course aims
The course offers participants the opportunity to reflect deeply on their own understanding of leadership, to learn fundamental new attitudes and techniques, and to carry these over into their own workplace practice.
Participants learn in a practically-oriented way what new demands are being made of leaders by today's adaptive organisations. In this light, they are encouraged to re-evaluate their own understanding of leadership. They are introduced to, and are then able to put into practice, proven techniques for enabling teams to work in a self-organising and autonomous way, and for building motivation across the whole team. They are provided with practical solution- and resource-oriented tools for establishing effective communication and conflict moderation.
Transfer into day to day practice
The course content is divided into six modules with different themes. Each module begins with a two-day seminar in which participants actively engage with the presented content by means of practical exercises in self-examination: these take the form of role-plays, case simulations, and learning experiments.
Between the modules participants apply the lessons of the course in their own workplace and share their experiences with a transfer group. When desired they can call upon support in the form of individual mentoring or coaching.
Who should participate?
The course is designed for companies who want to offer their leaders the chance to learn or further develop the approaches, techniques, and mindset necessary to successfully manage self-organising teams and to enable modern forms of organisation to grow and evolve.
Participants are typically executives, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, or project managers from companies desiring to become more agile and adaptive.
Detailed course content
Module 1: Understanding leadership in adaptive organisations
Organisations that want to be able to respond quickly to new requirements, both internal and external, need a new style of management. To understand what this means, course participants examine the characteristics and structures of adaptive organisations, the values and attitudes that foster self-organisation, and the concept of leadership as indirect management, through the definition of boundaries and the creation of development opportunities.
Module 2: The systemic mindset and the solution-focused work model
Participants take situations from their daily business routine and examine these from a systemic standpoint, learning to adopt an open and enquiring attitude. They learn to take a solution-focused approach that enables them even in difficult situations to focus not on the problems but on the desired solutions and the resources of the people involved.
Module 3: Enabling team self-management and assumption of responsibility
Participants examine the conditions that management must create to enable teams to become self-organising and to assume responsibility. On the practical side, participants are introduced to and try out a range of analysis and support tools addressing various aspects of the topic.
Module 4: Strengthening communication
Many problems in our daily work arise as a result of misunderstandings and ineffective communication. In this module participants examine preconditions and techniques for establishing successful communication and dealing with conflicts.
Module 5: Enabling skill development and learning
Participants consider the wide diversity of human inclinations and abilities, and examine techniques for recognising these differences and fostering their development. Participants learn about the interrelationships between motivation, enthusiasm and learning, and so gain insights into how flow, creativity and innovation can be generated in the workplace.
Module 6: Self-management and self-direction
The aspiration to lead others needs to be accompanied by a high level of self-examination and a clear understanding of one's own attitudes and behaviour patterns. In this module participants learn approaches for strengthening self-management and self-direction.
